How we design

We design around how a family actually lives in a house.

That means fewer formal rooms and more places where people naturally gather. It means light, storage, and flow that work every day, not just on a tour. And it means holding the details that matter while letting go of the ones that do not.

Every Ivy Lane home is shaped by the people who will live in it and the land it sits on. We keep the number of projects small so that attention stays with the home in front of us.

The Ivy Lane story

What guides us

Three ideas behind every home.

I

Timeless design

Proportion first. Trends last.

Start with proportion, natural light and materials that suit the setting. The aim is a home that feels considered long after the first impression.

II

Personal fit

Like a hand in a glove.

Plan around your mornings, gatherings and everyday storage. Room connections, light and useful space should reflect how you actually live.

III

Grounded guidance

Clear guidance at every decision.

Understand the choice before making it: scope, cost basis, dependencies and what is still unknown. Agree on decisions and responsibilities before work proceeds.

The place shapes the possibilities

A home you love.
A setting worth understanding.

Edina / Renovation & new homes

Keep what matters.
Rethink what could work better.

Start with the existing home, the site and the way you want to live. Consider room connections, daylight and materials alongside property-specific feasibility.

Lake Minnetonka & the Brainerd Lakes

Let the setting
shape the home.

Consider the site, seasonal use and the rooms where life happens. Shoreland requirements and buildability need a specific-property review.

Our signature

Lake homes, made timeless.

We build in every style, but lake homes are where we began. Building our own taught us what a drawing can’t: where the light lands at seven in the morning, why a mudroom matters in March, how a dock and a shoreline shape the whole site, and how county and DNR shoreline rules shape what can be built.

Fieldstone, cedar and timber up north. Shingle, cottage and long porches on the big lake. Every one built for four seasons.

How we work

Calm isn’t a promise that nothing changes.

It’s knowing what to do when it does.

Our proposed process makes the major decisions visible. The actual scope, sequence and responsibilities belong in each project’s agreement.

Start where you are.

Tell us about the place you keep coming back to in your mind. The one you already love. Or the one that doesn’t exist yet. We’ll tell you what we see, what we don’t, and what only you can decide next.
